A University of New 17ڹϳ School of the Arts faculty member will be among a select group of artists whose work will be featured in an exhibit highlighting the many contributions of contemporary visual artists during the recent celebration of New 17ڹϳ’ tricentennial year. A creation by Kathy Rodriguez was selected during a juried process for inclusion in “Thirty New 17ڹϳ Artists,” an exhibit opening Saturday, September 8 at the .
The exhibition “Thirty New 17ڹϳ Artists” opens with a reception from 6-9:30 p.m. on Saturday, September 8 and continues through November 3, 2018. The Second Story Gallery is an artist-run cooperative located in the New 17ڹϳ Healing Center at 2372 St. Claude Ave., on the corner of St. Claude and St. Roch, directly across from the St. Roch Market. Regular gallery hours are Monday to Sunday 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Admission is free and open to the public.
Rodriguez earned master’s degrees in art history and painting and drawing from the University of Montana in Missoula, Mont. She has been an instructor at the University of New 17ڹϳ since 2008, teaching courses in art history and studio art. From 2011-2018, she also served as director of the UNO-St. Claude Gallery, curating exhibitions and scheduling programming for the University's off-campus presence in the greater New 17ڹϳ community of visual arts and artists. Her studio practice incorporates primarily painting and drawing, as well as some sculpture, printmaking and installation. Rodriguez maintains an active exhibition record of solo, two-person and group shows. A New 17ڹϳ resident, she currently writes art criticism for New 17ڹϳ Art Review.
