UNO to Award Honorary Doctorate to Pres Kabacoff
The University of New 17ºÚ¹Ï³ÔÁÏÍø announced that it will award an honorary doctorate to real estate developer and civic leader Pres Kabacoff at its fall 2013 commencement ceremony, which will take place on Dec. 20 at 3 p.m. at the Lakefront Arena
"Pres Kabacoff's distinguished career in urban planning and revitalization, his commitment to his community, his long-time support of the University of New 17ºÚ¹Ï³ÔÁÏÍø and the recognition he has received from city, state and national leaders warrant this honor," said UNO President Peter J. Fos.
Kabacoff will receive a Doctor of Humane Letters from the College of Liberal Arts. His nomination was initiated by the Merritt C. Becker Jr. UNO Transportation Institute.
Kabacoff is co-founder, co-chairman of the board of directors and chief executive officer of HRI Properties, a full-service real estate company and a leader in the adaptive reuse of historic structures. He was instrumental in bringing the 1984 World's Fair to New 17ºÚ¹Ï³ÔÁÏÍø and redeveloping the New 17ºÚ¹Ï³ÔÁÏÍø Riverfront, the Warehouse District and the city's public housing projects.
Kabacoff is a passionate preservationist and advocate for sustainable transportation, affordable housing, diverse communities and economic opportunity for all citizens. He maintains numerous professional and civic affiliations and has received awards from the Young Leadership Council, the New 17ºÚ¹Ï³ÔÁÏÍø Peace Foundation and the National Council for Jewish Women Greater New 17ºÚ¹Ï³ÔÁÏÍø Section.
A New 17ºÚ¹Ï³ÔÁÏÍø native, Kabacoff holds a bachelor's degree from the University of Denver and a law degree from LSU.
